MacKenzie recently joined Beyond Basics, saying it felt like home the minute she walked through the door.  She was born, raised and schooled in cosmetology in Columbus, Ohio, but moved to Wilmington in 2003.  A woman of many talents, her career includes an 8-year stint with the Ford Motor Company and 11 years as the owner of a childcare center.  She feels, however, that she’s found her true calling as a hair stylist.  In her words, “you have to see what’s in front of you and envision what it can be.”  Her vision grows out of getting to know each new client via a 30-40 minute initial consultation.  

While MacKenzie loves the versatility of working with hair, giving pixie cuts is a specialty as is blonding and adding hair extensions. 

The proud mother of four children in their late teens/early twenties, Mackenzie rarely sits still.  She counts among her many accomplishments the construction of a house from the ground up.  Ask her how she managed that, and she simply answers “You Tube and I are friends.”  Other hobbies have included bowling and more recently, golf.  Of her golf she says, she can drive a ball 176 yards in no particular direction.

MacKenzie brings her delightful sense of humor and energy to her chair in the salon, leaving clients with a beautiful new head of hair and a broad smile.
